Our ‘new’ Winford Community Shop and Post Office Local is now open. It joins the growing network of community shops in our Region that are entirely community owned, managed and run.
The shop has been thoroughly refitted thanks to funding from the Leader programme, part of the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, managed in our area by local charity West of England Rural Network.
The shop is entirely run by volunteers with employed staff working in the post office. By shopping locally for some goods, you can help keep the shop at the heart of the community. Our team of staff and volunteers would love to meet new customers and receive your suggestions for increasing sales. If you would like to help in any way please call in to the shop. Additional volunteers to work in the shop for just two hours a week would be particularly welcome.
Any comments can be sent to admin@winfordcommunityshop.org.uk
The shop has been completely restocked with many new products to tempt regular customers and bring new ones in.
There is fresh bread daily, fresh veg, local eggs and potatoes, local bacon, ham, milk cheese and quiches as well as general grocery and household goods. The shop has a selection of wines and beers and farmhouse chutneys, biscuits and cakes as well as the popular children’s tuck shop and ice cream selection. Reducing plastic waste is a priority and you can refill your laundry and dishwashing liquid. A milk vending machine has just been installed, so you can buy milk in refillable glass bottles. A coffee machine will be arriving shortly, providing a range of fresh high quality beverages.
Suggestions for items to stock can be sent to admin@winfordcommunityshop.org.uk
Post office services include banking, bill payment, travel money and insurance as well as postal services. A good selection of greetings cards, stationery and packaging complements this service.
Thank you to everyone who has pledged to support the community shop and post office. So far we have pledges for just under £27,000 from 100+ people. Our target is to raise £30,000 and we are delighted that so many people want to be a part of this new venture.
If you missed the chance to pledge, you can still buy shares. Shareholders will become members of the Shop society and have a say in how the shop is run. You only need to buy one share at £25.00 each to have full voting rights.
The Steering Group have put together a Business Plan setting out the plans and financial forecasts for the shop. You can view a copy here. Copies of the Share Prospectus and Share Application form can be downloaded here and here. The Community Benefit Society Registration and Rules document can be downloaded here.
